A unique collaboration between UK-based charcoal artist Violet Astor, conservation charity Tusk, and Savernake Knives.
Inspired by the Grevy’s Zebra.
Conservation of the natural world has never been more topical or important, and it has been a pleasure to collaborate with Savernake Knives and Tusk on behalf of the striking Grevy’s Zebra. The most affected by human behaviour of any African mammal, due to issues like habitat loss and hunting, this unique zebra’s survival on this planet is now up to us. My hope is that this knife will be enjoyed by food and wildlife enthusiasts alike in the fight to support the Grevy’s Zebra’s preservation.

We are very excited to be collaborating with Violet and African wildlife charity Tusk to raise awareness of and funds for the Grevy’s zebra, the largest and most endangered species of zebra. Using our signature Savernake Knife model as a canvas, Violet drew inspiration from the unique and iconic striped pattern of the Grevy’s zebra to design a laser engraving for both sides of the blade. Just as the print on the animal’s body fades as it approaches the belly, so does the engraving on this knife.
The Grevy’s zebra is found in southern Ethiopia and, primarily, northern Kenya. According to Tusk, it has “undergone one of the most substantial reductions of range of any African mammal”. Habitat loss forces them to compete with other species for scarce resources. In Ethiopia, they are also extensively hunted for their skins.
British charity Tusk has a long-standing partnership with Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in northern Kenya, where 11% of the world’s Grevy’s zebra population make their home. We will be donating 10% of each sale of Violet’s design to Tusk’s efforts in conserving the species.Savernake Knives Tweet
